On Thursday, Rama Sene activists stormed a unisex salon in the Bejai area of Mangaluru, accusing its management of conducting unlawful activities. The group, led by local leader Prasad Attavar, reportedly vandalized furniture, shattered glass, and threatened female staff, according to police sources. A total of 14 individuals were remanded to judicial custody until February 7.
Reacting to the incident, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara condemned the attack, emphasizing that no one should take the law into their own hands. “I have directed the police to take strict legal action. Businesses must operate lawfully, and complaints about violations should be brought to authorities, not addressed through violence,” he stated.
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao also criticized the incident, calling it an act of hooliganism. “Such behavior tarnishes the name of Lord Ram. Violence and moral policing harm the region’s development. Hindu organizations must denounce these actions,” he added, warning of stringent action against those engaging in moral vigilantism.
Prasad Attavar, defending the attack, alleged the salon was involved in drugging and exploiting young girls, claiming the action was to “save the girls.” Conversely, salon owner Sudheer refuted these claims, stating the establishment operates with valid licenses. He accused the attackers of planting incriminating items to frame the business.
Authorities have vowed to maintain peace and investigate both the allegations and the actions of the attackers.
