Mangaluru: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested an auto-rickshaw driver for allegedly peddling MDMA in the city.

The accused, Mohammad Abdul Jaleel (32), was found in possession of 75 grams of MDMA worth ₹3.75 lakh, which he had reportedly procured from Bengaluru via parcel service. Acting on a tip-off, the CCB team intercepted him within the Mangaluru North Police Station limits on March 4.

Investigations revealed that Jaleel was distributing the synthetic drug from his auto-rickshaw, targeting students and the general public. Along with the drugs, police seized his vehicle and mobile phone, bringing the total value of confiscated items to ₹5 lakh.

Officials suspect that Jaleel was part of a larger drug syndicate and are working to identify his associates. “The accused was selling MDMA for quick profits and a lavish lifestyle. Further probes are underway to track down others involved,” a senior police officer stated.

The operation was spearheaded by CCB Inspector Rafeeq K.M., under the guidance of ACP Manoj Kumar Naik, along with PSI Sudeep M.V., ASI Ram Poojari, and other CCB personnel. A case has been registered at Mangaluru North Police Station.
