In a tragic accident near Ammunje late Friday night, an auto rickshaw driver was killed instantly and three children were injured when the vehicle plunged into a roadside drain.

The driver, 37-year-old Mahabala Poojari from Ammunje, was reportedly returning home with his relatives after attending a village festival in Mijar, Moodbidri taluk. As they approached Ganemar in Ammunje, Bantwal taluk, Poojari lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal crash.

The injured children, Tushar, Bhavith, and Pradeep, are said to be Poojari’s relatives. They sustained injuries in the mishap and are currently being treated.

A case has been filed at the Bantwal Traffic Police Station, and authorities have begun an investigation into the incident.
