Mangaluru witnessed a heartfelt tribute to the late Abdul Rahiman, a beloved pickup driver and active social worker, through a large-scale blood donation camp at Kolthamajalu, Bantwal. The initiative was spearheaded by Blood Donors Mangaluru, in collaboration with GHM Foundation Mullarapatna, Muhiuddin Juma Masjid Kolthamajalu, and SKSSF Kolthamajalu branch.

The camp, held at the Madrasa Auditorium on Sunday, drew nearly 200 pre-registered volunteers. Organisers honoured Rahiman’s legacy, recalling his tireless efforts in community service and his commitment to blood donation, transcending barriers of religion or caste.

Siddiq Manjeshwar, president of Blood Donors Mangaluru, said Rahiman’s dedication to helping people from all walks of life inspired them to organise the event. “He was a silent hero of the village, always stepping up during emergencies and encouraging others to donate blood,” Siddiq noted. The camp received support from Yenepoya Hospital.

Blood Donors Mangaluru has held over 500 camps in the last 13 years, including in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. On average, these camps collect 100 units of blood per event, with some drawing up to 400 donors.

Siddiq highlighted the ongoing demand for blood in the region’s hospitals and urged more youth to come forward. He added that most current donors are repeat contributors, who must wait 90 days between donations.

The event was not just a tribute to Rahiman but a reminder of the power of community and compassion.
