Mangaluru: In a major breakthrough, the Barke Police arrested three alleged inter-state burglars of Nepal origin within five days of a major house burglary reported near Urwa Market and recovered gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 10 lakh. The accused were apprehended during an operation at Boloor in the early hours of Friday, leading to the recovery of valuables linked to the burglary as well as property stolen in another state.

The arrested accused have been identified as Tilak Kumar Khadka alias Tilak Khadka (36) from Chainpur district in Nepal, Ashok Raj alias Ashok Singh alias Ashok Singh Thakuri (33) from Bajhang district, Nepal, and Dipender Rasaili (25) from Kailali district, Nepal.

Burglary reported after family returned home

According to the police, the case relates to a house burglary at Mathadakani near Urwa Market. On July 11, the house owners locked their residence and travelled to a relative’s house at Kadambu in Vittal, Bantwal taluk.

When they returned on the morning of July 12, they found the back door of the house broken open. Burglars had allegedly escaped with 64 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 25,000 in cash, with the total value of the stolen property estimated at Rs 8,57,000.

Following the complaint, the Barke Police registered a case under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Accused arrested during police operation

Acting on credible information, a special team of Barke Police tracked the suspects and intercepted them at Boloor during the early hours of July 17.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the burglary, following which police recovered all the stolen gold ornaments connected to the Barke case.

The police also seized 790 grams of silver articles that had reportedly been stolen in a burglary case registered in Nashik, Maharashtra.

Gang linked to attempted burglary in Urwa

Police said the accused also admitted their involvement in an attempted house burglary within the jurisdiction of the Urwa Police Station in March 2026.

Although no valuables were stolen in that incident, a criminal case had been registered under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Investigators are now examining the gang’s movements and their possible involvement in other unsolved burglary cases in the region.

More than 15 burglary cases under investigation

During further questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed that they were involved in more than 15 house burglaries across Karnataka, including cases registered in Bengaluru, Davanagere and Udupi.

Police also suspect the trio’s involvement in several burglary cases in Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Haryana. Authorities have initiated correspondence with police departments in those states to verify the accused’s criminal history and obtain additional case details.

Investigators believe further recoveries and disclosures are possible as the probe progresses.

Further investigation continues

The arrested accused are being produced before the jurisdictional court for further legal proceedings.

Police said the successful operation was carried out by officers and staff of the Barke Police Station under the guidance of the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner. Officials added that efforts are continuing to identify any other members of the burglary network and determine whether the accused were involved in additional property offences across the country.
