Belthangady: Renowned Yakshagana performer Mundaje Sadashiva Shetty passed away following a heart attack at his residence in Mangaluru on Saturday night. He was 67.

A senior and respected figure in the Yakshagana community, Shetty had been associated with the Kateel Mela for over two decades and served as the manager of Kateel Mela-3. Over the years, he also contributed significantly to other well-known troupes such as Dharmasthala, Karnataka, and Sasihithlu melas.

Known for his dynamic performances in both Tulu and Kannada prasangas, Shetty was acclaimed for his versatility in portraying various characters—ranging from heroic ‘pundu’ roles to majestic ‘rajavesha’ and theatrical ‘natakeeya’ parts.

His sudden demise is a major loss to the traditional art form and its cultural community.
