The ambitious high-speed expressway linking Mangaluru and Bengaluru is gaining traction, with the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways finalizing the tender process. According to MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will begin soon.

Chowta revealed that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari officially confirmed the project’s progress through a formal communication. The contract for preparing the DPR was awarded on April 30, and the report is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Expressing gratitude, Chowta acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister Gadkari, and national highway authorities for taking a decisive step towards this transformative infrastructure project. He emphasized that the expressway would serve as a catalyst for economic growth in Dakshina Kannada, especially bolstering trade and commercial activity in Mangaluru.

The proposed express corridor, featuring four to eight lanes, is set to run through Hassan district. Once operational, the modern roadway will drastically cut down travel time and ease traffic flow between the two major cities. It will offer year-round connectivity and enhance regional accessibility.

The infrastructure boost is projected to benefit not just Mangaluru but also spur development across South Karnataka. Chowta added that the expressway will support expansion of the Mangaluru Port and contribute to the growth of tourism, logistics, and local businesses.

He also noted multiple discussions held with top leaders, including Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Amit Shah, and senior state and national officials, to push the initiative forward.
