The bifurcation of Mangalore University (MU) has left many guest faculty and contractual staff, now under Kodagu University, struggling without pay for months. Dozens of employees, originally recruited by MU, allege they have not received salaries for the past two to three months and are demanding immediate payment.

From this academic year, 26 undergraduate colleges — including Field Marshal KM Cariappa College, Madikeri — have shifted from MU to Kodagu University. MU syndicate member K.C. Mahadesha said, “We have asked MU to disburse the pending salaries at the earliest and clear any arrears from previous years.”

Following the bifurcation, MU continued handling PG courses in Kodagu until 2023-24 and UG courses until 2024-25. With the completion of the last UG batch, all 26 UG colleges are now fully under Kodagu University, which will henceforth handle salary disbursements.

MU finance officer Y. Sangappa confirmed that salaries for some staff have been pending since May. “We will clear them at the earliest, including those for Kodagu staff,” he said.
