BJP MLA Vedavyas Kamath, along with prominent BJP leaders, was detained during a protest organized by the Dakshina Kannada district BJP Yuva Morcha near Mini Vidhana Soudha in Mangaluru. The demonstration condemned the Congress-led Siddaramaiah government, accusing it of fostering distress among contractors and officials, leading to multiple suicides.

Kamath’s fiery allegations
Before his arrest, Kamath lashed out at the Congress government, alleging it has failed to provide peace to the public, contractors, and honest officials since taking office. He remarked, “Under this administration, suicide seems to be the only ‘guarantee’.”

Kamath referenced high-profile cases, including:

  • Sachin, a contractor who allegedly died by suicide due to harassment linked to Minister Priyank Kharge’s aides.
  • Chandrashekar, superintendent of the Maharshi Valmiki Development Corporation, who also died by suicide.
  • A government official who claimed to fear for his life due to harassment by Congress MLA Belur Gopalakrishna.
  • Rudresh, who allegedly died by suicide following harassment by Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar’s aide.
  • Parashuram, a Dalit inspector, allegedly tortured in a case tied to Congress MLA Channareddy Patil’s son.
