Mangaluru: A high-level BJP delegation led by state party president BY Vijayendra visited Dakshina Kannada on Monday, expressing strong objections to what they described as continued police harassment of Hindutva activists. The delegation warned that widespread agitation would follow if such actions persisted.

Joining Vijayendra were senior leaders including Assembly opposition leader R Ashoka, Council opposition leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, former Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, and other key functionaries. They emphasized that addressing issues like cow slaughter, love jihad, the drug trade, and illegal sand mining was essential to maintain peace in the region.

In light of the murder of Suhas Shetty, the team held meetings with both police officials and leaders from Hindutva organizations. “The police, under the guise of maintaining law and order, behaved like goons. Midnight raids were conducted on activists from VHP, Bajrang Dal, and Hindu Jagaran Vedike. In one case, a woman constable reportedly threatened an activist’s parents at gunpoint,” Vijayendra alleged.

He blamed the anti-communal task force formed by the Congress-led government for these incidents, calling it politically motivated. “The Congress wants to intimidate our workers because Dakshina Kannada is a BJP and Hindutva stronghold,” he claimed.

He further criticized the police for slow action in the Shetty case while being swift to file FIRs against Hindutva members when minorities are attacked. “The central government has now handed over the Shetty case to the NIA amid reports of foreign funding,” he noted.

Vijayendra also highlighted alleged police bias in other incidents, including selective action in political speeches.
