An attempted burglary at a Muthoot Finance branch in Derlakatte, Mangaluru, was disrupted in the early hours of Sunday, police reported.
As per sources, three men, who had traveled by train on Saturday evening, lingered around Derlakatte until late night before initiating their plan. Around 3 AM, they tried to break into the financial institution, situated on the upper level of a commercial complex at Derlakatte Junction, using a drill machine.
Their efforts, however, triggered the security alarm, which promptly alerted the company’s control center. The message was relayed to law enforcement, and a patrolling unit swiftly responded. As the siren blared, residents nearby also rushed to the spot.
Two culprits, Murali from Kanhangad and Harshad from Kasargod, Kerala, were trapped inside the building and taken into custody with the help of bystanders. A drill machine used in the crime was confiscated. The third suspect, Abdul Latif from Kasargod, managed to flee.
ACP Dhanya Nayak and a team led by Konaje Inspector Rajendra arrived to conduct a thorough probe. Initial questioning revealed that the arrested duo had links to a bank robbery at Vijaya Bank in Kerala. Police are intensifying efforts to track down the fugitive.
