In a heart-wrenching incident, a 46-year-old man, Udayakumar, ended his life by jumping into the sea from Rudrapaade in Someshwar near Ullal on Wednesday afternoon. His body was discovered later that evening at Alimakallu.
A resident of Veeranagara, Padil, Udayakumar owned a building materials shop in Padavinangadi. He reportedly arrived at the Someshwar beach on his scooter, leaving behind his belongings before leaping into the waters.
A young bystander who witnessed the tragic act collected Udayakumar’s possessions and handed them to a nearby shopkeeper. The youth promptly alerted the Ullal police. Lifeguards conducted an extensive search using a tyre tube and eventually located Udayakumar’s body floating at Alimakallu.
Udayakumar is survived by his parents, wife, and son, leaving his family and community in mourning.
