Mangaluru:  A fatal road accident occurred on Sunday night at Mukka Junction when a car rammed into a two-wheeler, killing the rider and injuring a pillion rider.

  • Deceased: Karunakar Shetty (61), resident of Chelairu.

  • Injured: Vishwanath (16), son of Hanumanth, originally from North Karnataka, now living in Chelairu. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Mukka.

  • How the accident happened

    Karunakar Shetty, who worked at a shop in Mukka, was returning home on his two-wheeler after closing the shop. He had given a ride to Vishwanath, who had come to buy milk.

    While crossing NH-66, a car heading towards Suratkal from Haleyangadi collided with their vehicle. The impact threw Karunakar onto the road, causing fatal injuries. Vishwanath sustained serious limb injuries.

    Police action

    The car driver, Muhammad Taufiq of Haleyangadi, has been taken into custody. Mangaluru North Traffic Police conducted an inspection and initiated further legal procedures.

    Road safety concerns

    The incident has renewed calls for stricter traffic enforcement and improved safety measures along NH-66, where accidents are frequent due to high-speed traffic and poor visibility at certain junctions.
