A commotion unfolded aboard a packed passenger train that left Subrahmanya on Tuesday, as a heated argument between two travelers over a seat escalated into unexpected chaos.
The disagreement, which erupted near Bantwal, quickly intensified in the cramped coach. In a burst of frustration, one of the passengers yanked the emergency chain, forcing the train to come to an abrupt stop on the tracks.
Railway staff swiftly responded to the unplanned halt. They began collecting details from bystanders and tried to piece together what led to the sudden interruption. Officials onboard coordinated with teams at upcoming stations to manage the situation and avoid further delays.
As the train finally rolled into Mangaluru Junction, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) got involved. Their personnel identified the individual who had triggered the emergency mechanism. After a brief investigation and questioning, the RPF determined that the chain had been pulled without a valid reason.
The offender was fined ₹1,500 as a penalty for misusing the emergency system, which is strictly reserved for genuine crises. Authorities issued a stern warning, reminding the passenger that such irresponsible actions could lead to more serious consequences in the future.
Railway officials emphasized the importance of keeping the emergency chain reserved for actual dangers, highlighting how misuse can disrupt services and compromise safety.
The incident serves as a reminder that losing one’s temper on public transport can prove costly — both in time and money.
