After eight years of dedicated service at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), Julie, a Labrador with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), has officially retired. Julie joined the CISF on March 26, 2013, and played a crucial role in the airport’s security. As dogs age, their sensitivity and agility tend to decrease, leading to retirement to avoid overburdening them.

A heartfelt farewell ceremony was organized by the CISF personnel, where Julie was adorned with garlands, celebrated with a cake, and paraded in a flower-decorated trolley pulled by her colleagues as a tribute to her years of loyalty. Post-retirement, Julie was adopted by her handler, allowing her to enjoy her golden years with a familiar, loving family.

Replacing her is Rio, an 11-month-old Labrador who completed his training at the CISF Dog Squad Training Center in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Rio now joins the CISF team at MIA, alongside Goldie (Golden Retriever) and two Belgian Malinois, Max and Ranger, who remain part of the airport’s canine security squad.

Julie’s contributions to the CISF will always be cherished as she embarks on a well-deserved retirement.
