CM Siddaramaiah Calls for Peace in Tense Dakshina Kannada
Amid rising communal tensions following the recent murder in Bantwal, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized the urgent need to restore peace and mutual respect in Dakshina Kannada. The region has been under prohibitory orders since May 27 after a youth was killed, escalating concerns of retaliatory violence.
On Thursday, Siddaramaiah visited Congress MLC B K Hariprasad’s residence to deliberate on the volatile situation in Mangaluru and its surrounding areas. Speaking to the media afterward, he stressed the importance of preserving social unity.
“We discussed the fragile state of affairs in Mangaluru. There must be no room for animosity between Hindus and Muslims. Promoting harmony is crucial, and we’re working toward that,” he said. The CM also urged Hariprasad to personally visit the region to assess the ground reality.
Addressing the spate of revenge-driven crimes, Siddaramaiah assured that the law would take its course regardless of the perpetrator’s influence or background. “Nobody is above the law,” he asserted.
When asked about the possible creation of an anti-communal force, the CM mentioned he would review and discuss the proposal soon.
In connection with the murder of Abdul Rahiman, police have detained three suspects, including Deepak and Sumith, believed to be the primary accused. Rahiman’s killing comes just weeks after the murder of Hindutva supporter Suhas Shetty, further fueling unrest.
Siddaramaiah also revealed that a statewide meeting to assess rain-related challenges would be held on Friday with deputy commissioners and officials.
