Mangaluru/Udupi: Intense rainfall continued to pound the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on Wednesday, disrupting normal life and prompting swift disaster preparedness responses.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the highest rainfall in the state was recorded at Handadi gram panchayat in Bramhavar taluk, Udupi, registering 271 mm. Other parts of Bramhavar also saw significant rain: Varamballi received 249 mm, Paduvari 246 mm, Havanje 241.5 mm, Haradi 233.5 mm, and Cherkadi 229.5 mm. In Dakshina Kannada, Neermarga topped the chart with 157 mm of rain.

Both districts remain under an orange alert until Thursday. Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Ravichandra Naik reported widespread rain damage across city limits. As a precaution, ward-wise incident commanders have been appointed and positioned in strategic locations to address emergencies swiftly.

KPCC working president and MLC Manjunath Bhandary confirmed that pre-monsoon showers over the last two days have caused inconveniences but no major calamities. He said surveys are underway and disaster management teams remain on high alert. He also updated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and relevant ministers on the situation.
