Mangaluru: Acting on directions from AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, a high-level Congress delegation visited the family of Ashraf, the man allegedly killed in a mob lynching incident in Kudupu, Mangaluru. Ashraf was a resident of Pulpally in Wayanad district, Kerala.
The visiting team included Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader, Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, AICC Secretary BK Hariprasad, Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Naseer Ahmed, Congress leader GA Bava, and Manjeshwar MLA AKM Ashraf.
During the visit, the delegation held discussions with the family regarding the next legal steps in the case. It was resolved that the Karnataka government would appoint special public prosecutors to ensure strong and focused legal representation. They also explored extending compensation under anti-mob lynching provisions.
As a mark of personal solidarity, Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan handed over ₹10 lakh from his personal funds to Ashraf’s family. Speaker UT Khader also contributed ₹5 lakh in financial aid.
Ashraf was brutally attacked and killed on April 27 in Kudupu. City police have since arrested 15 suspects in connection with the incident. The case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, including 103(2), 115(2), 189(2), 190, 191(1), 191(3), and 240.
The delegation assured the grieving family of continued legal and moral support and emphasized that justice would be pursued with urgency and determination.
