Mangaluru: A tense moment unfolded during a press conference on Saturday when Congress leader Usman Kallapu openly confronted Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, demanding justice for the recent murder of Abdul Rahiman.
The scene erupted after a journalist questioned whether provocative social media posts were linked to Rahiman’s killing. Interrupting, Kallapu accused inflammatory speeches made during the controversial ‘Bajpe Chalo’ event as the real catalyst behind the murder. He demanded immediate police action against those delivering hate speeches that allegedly incited violence.
Even after exiting the venue, Kallapu continued expressing outrage, urging the government to take firm action. “Arrest those who called for violence — people made statements like ‘he must be killed’ in public! We’re in power; it’s time to act decisively,” he said, directly addressing Minister Gundu Rao.
Reiterating his stance, Kallapu criticized selective enforcement, saying, “People are being arrested over Facebook posts, but those who deliver public hate speeches roam free. We don’t need sympathy — we want justice.”
He expressed faith in the newly appointed police officials in the district and called for impartial and swift action to uphold peace in Dakshina Kannada, a region often marred by communal tension.
