Mangaluru: In a strong show of dissent, the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee will organize a mass protest rally on April 26 to oppose the rising prices of diesel and LPG cylinders, blaming the central BJP government for the burden on common citizens.
Announcing the protest, District Congress President Harish Kumar stated that the rally will commence at Ambedkar Circle (Jyothi) and move towards the Clock Tower, culminating in a public meeting. Key leaders including Congress national secretary Roji M John and District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao will address the gathering.
“The BJP has been in power at the Centre for 11 years, but all we’ve seen is a rise in fuel prices and anti-people economic decisions,” Harish Kumar told the media. He criticized the Centre for failing to control inflation and claimed that the fuel price hikes are hurting both urban and rural households alike.
In contrast, he praised the Congress-led Karnataka government, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, for implementing multiple guarantee schemes while maintaining fiscal stability. “Our state budget runs into crores, yet we have shown how to govern with financial discipline and people-first policies,” he added.
The rally is expected to see a large turnout of party workers and citizens, making it a key political event ahead of the upcoming electoral season.
