Mangalore: A recent directive from the Dakshina Kannada District Deputy Director of Education (DDPI) has ignited a heated debate. Issued on July 16, the circular bans the use of school premises for non-academic activities and prohibits proposals for such events. Critics argue that this move specifically targets Hindu festivals and traditions.

MLA Kamath’s Strong Reaction

MLA Veda Vyasa Kamath has sharply criticized the directive, claiming it aims to undermine Hindu traditions. He called for the government to withdraw the circular, warning that failure to do so could provoke Hindu communities. “With festivals approaching, it’s unacceptable that the state Congress government is trying to disrupt our long-standing traditions,” he said.

BJP’s Condemnation

Satish Kumpala, BJP D.K. President, condemned the circular as an affront to Hindu sentiments. He stressed the importance of Hindu festivals in Indian culture and demanded its immediate cancellation. “Banning religious practices on school grounds is a direct attack on Hindu festivals. Such actions repeatedly hurt Hindu sentiments, and the education department must recognize the role of Indian culture in these traditions,” he stated.

The controversy continues to stir emotions, with calls for the government to reconsider its decision and permit the use of school premises for religious and cultural events, especially with festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Navaratri approaching.
