Councillor Urges Municipal Commissioner For Boat Amidst Rainy Season Woes

Kamarunnisa Nizam, councillor of ward No. 11, has expressed frustration over the Ullal City Municipal Council’s alleged inaction in addressing waterlogging issues during heavy rains. In a letter dated June 28, she urgently requested Municipal Commissioner Vani V Alva to provide a boat to help residents, especially children, cross a 9-meter wide road that often floods during monsoons.

Nizam highlighted that recent heavy rains in Bandikotya and Milat Nagar had turned the road into a river, causing significant inconvenience to the public, especially children and the elderly. Despite her earlier requests for priority drainage works, she accused the council of neglecting the issue, leading to water stagnation and potential health hazards such as mosquito breeding.

Commissioner Alva responded, stating that Nizam’s demands were exaggerated and that immediate action had been taken to address the water stagnation issue. She explained that due to the complexity of the area with multiple water and cable lines, using heavy machinery was impractical, necessitating manual intervention. Despite these efforts, Nizam persisted in requesting a boat for the affected area.

The dispute underscores ongoing challenges in municipal infrastructure management during the monsoon season, prompting renewed calls for effective drainage solutions to mitigate flooding risks.
