Jonas Samson, 35, and his wife Victoria Mathais, 47, were found guilty by the 1st Additional District & Sessions Judge HS Mallikarjuna Swamy on Friday for the brutal murder of Srimathi Shetty, a 37-year-old chit fund owner, on May 11, 2019. The couple dismembered and disposed of Srimathi’s body across Mangaluru. A third accomplice, Raju, 29, was convicted for aiding the couple.
Srimathi had gone to Jonas’s house to demand a pending chit fund balance when Jonas assaulted her, leading to her murder. Jonas and Victoria then dismembered her body to destroy evidence. The couple disposed of her remains in various locations around the city. Victoria helped clean up the crime scene, while Raju provided assistance, including shelter and a vehicle.
The court found Jonas and Victoria guilty under IPC sections 302 (murder), 392 (robbery), and 201 (destruction of evidence). Raju was convicted under section 414 of the IPC for assisting the main accused. The quantum of punishment will be announced on September 17.
