Mangaluru: One month into the academic year, Dakshina Kannada has achieved green zone status and stands first in the state for the highest school admissions, according to the Department of School Education and Literacy. It is followed by Uttara Kannada, Dharwad, Udupi, Uttara Kannada (Sirsi), and Belagavi. In contrast, districts like Bengaluru South, Bengaluru North, Kolar, Kalaburagi, Kodagu, and Bidar remain in the red zone.
Most of the state’s 35 educational zones are in the yellow and red zones, indicating that admissions have not reached the anticipated numbers. Dakshina Kannada recorded 87.5% progress, the highest in the state, followed by Uttara Kannada at 86.5%.
“The target is based on the previous academic year’s total admissions. After July, the department conducts a special admission drive following the usual June admissions period,” said Sumangala S. Nayak, Deputy Project Coordinator of Samagra Shikshana Karnataka (SSK), Dakshina Kannada.
Dakshina Kannada demonstrated strong enrolment numbers across government, private, and aided schools, with 3,14,006 admissions out of a target of 3,58,628 students. Uttara Kannada reached 95,653 admissions out of a target of 1,10,487 students, while Dharwad recorded 85.95% progress with 3,18,310 admissions out of 3,70,349 students.
Bengaluru North, with a target of 12,96,232 students, remains in the deep red zone with 71.54% progress and 9,27,292 admissions.
In terms of government school admissions, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada performed well, achieving 87.6% and 86.3% progress, respectively.
