Dakshina Kannada MP Inspects Rain-Hit Areas, Orders Relief Measures

Mangaluru: Newly elected MP from Dakshina Kannada, Capt Brijesh Chowta, visited rain-affected areas surrounding the city on Sunday. He went to Madaninagara in Kuthar, where a retaining wall collapsed on a house, resulting in the tragic deaths of four family members.

The MP listened to grievances and instructed officials to promptly provide compensation to the deceased family’s members. He also directed them to conduct a village-wise survey to identify vulnerable houses.

Later, Capt Brijesh Chowta visited areas affected by sea erosion in Mogaveerapatna, Seaground areas in Someshwara and Ullal, Ucchila, and Battampady. He visited the site where the tragic incident occurred and instructed officials to expedite compensation payments to the affected family.

The MP was in New Delhi for a parliament session when the incident occurred. Upon returning to Mangaluru, he promptly visited the site.

He also inspected sea erosion-affected areas in Ucchila, Mogaveerapatna, Battampady, Seaground areas in Ullal, and Someshwar, noting the intensified erosion due to extreme weather. Capt Brijesh Chowta urged residents living near the shore to remain vigilant.

He instructed the Deputy Commissioner to take necessary steps to prevent mishaps due to sea erosion and ensure temporary arrangements for those facing threats. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the district on July 1 and 2.
