In light of the escalating cybercrime cases, the Dakshina Kannada police are initiating a campaign to educate the public through short videos, aimed at raising awareness about various fraudulent practices online.
Educating the Public
SP CB Ryshyanth announced plans to release informative videos within 10 days, which will be disseminated via social media platforms to enlighten people about the deceptive techniques used by cyber fraudsters.
Rising Cyber Threats
The videos will address the surge in cybercrimes, including part-time job scams, fraudulent share trading, phishing scams, and online marketplace frauds, where victims are enticed with unrealistically low prices for products like iPhones.
Prevention Measures
The SP cautioned against attending video calls from unknown individuals and emphasized the importance of vigilance in online interactions to prevent falling prey to scams.
Enforcement of Safety Measures
Regarding CCTV camera installation, the SP highlighted the obligation under the Public Safety Act for commercial establishments to comply. Failure to do so may result in notices and fines issued by DSP rank officers.
