Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada police arrested Anil Fernandes, 49, from Kollam, Kerala, in a case involving imposters posing as Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials. The gang allegedly robbed a businessman’s family in Vittal police limits, stealing cash worth Rs 25-30 lakh earlier this month.
According to SP Yathish N, the police recovered a Kerala-registered car, Rs 5 lakh in cash, and a fake Tamil Nadu number plate used during the crime, with the total value of the seized property estimated at Rs 11 lakh. Fernandes was apprehended in Bengaluru and is believed to be part of a Kerala-based gang.
The incident occurred on the night of January 3 in Narsha, Bolanthur, Bantwal taluk, when six unidentified men posed as ED officers. The gang conducted a staged raid at the businessman’s residence, looting approximately Rs 30 lakh in cash before escaping.
Under SP Yathish N’s directives, four special investigation teams were formed to track down the culprits. One accused was arrested on Thursday, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
