
Dakshina Kannada Records Extreme Heat; IMD Issues Heatwave Warning
Mangaluru and surrounding areas continue to experience hot and humid conditions, with temperatures soaring across Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts. According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Sullia Hobli recorded Karnataka’s highest temperature at 40.1°C between February 28 and March 1.
Several other locations in Dakshina Kannada reported extreme temperatures:
- Uppinangady: 39.5°C
- Panemangalore (Bantwal): 39.1°C
- Kadaba: 39°C
Similarly, in Uttara Kannada, the highest temperatures recorded were:
- Savantvada (Karwar): 39.9°C
- Mavinakurve (Honnavar): 39.5°C
- Ghadasaya (Karwar): 39.8°C
Heatwave Warning Issued
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for March 1 and 2 in Coastal Karnataka, with hot and humid conditions expected to persist on March 3.
- Relative humidity: 40-50%
- Maximum air temperature: 37-38°C
- Perceived temperature: 40-50°C (causing significant discomfort)
While no major temperature fluctuations are expected in South Interior Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka could see a gradual decrease in temperatures after three days.
