Dakshina Kannada, once behind in generating Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) IDs—a crucial requirement for students from Kindergarten to Class 12—is now setting the pace, leading the state with the highest enrollment percentage. As of Wednesday, reports show that registrations have exceeded 80%. This is a remarkable increase from the 40% progress observed in the first week of December last year. Delays were initially attributed to issues with defective Aadhaar cards, which were not accepted. However, authorities have confirmed that these discrepancies are being corrected at the school level.
The APAAR system assigns a unique 12-digit ID to students in government, aided, and unaided schools, as well as PU institutions. This system enables students to track and store their academic records, ensuring smooth transitions between educational institutions. Furthermore, it supports credit recognition and facilitates student mobility, optimizing educational advancement.
Govinda Madivala, DDPI of Dakshina Kannada, emphasized the district’s significant progress despite initial hurdles. “We’ve achieved 80% registration, and we are working to complete the process swiftly,” he noted. Challenges, including Aadhaar mismatches, continue, especially in government schools. For instance, discrepancies in students’ Aadhaar records prevent the generation of APAAR IDs. Moreover, some students lack Aadhaar cards or have discrepancies between their records and SATS details. PU colleges are assisting in the registration process, as integration with NEET (UG)-2025 is expected.
