Mangaluru: A badly decomposed body was discovered in the bathroom of an abandoned structure within the Urva police station limits on Saturday, triggering suspicions of foul play.

Around 12 noon on May 17, a local resident—who owns a pan shop in Lalbagh—went into the compound of a vacant building opposite his shop to relieve himself. He was drawn inside by a strong foul odour coming from the premises.

Upon entering, he was shocked to find a male corpse in the building’s bathroom. The body was in an advanced stage of decomposition. The man stated that he had frequently seen an individual named Nagaraj visiting the site and believed the deceased resembled him.

Close to the body, police found a broken interlock stone and dried blood stains on the bathroom wall, pointing to the possibility of a violent incident. The complainant suspects that the person may have been beaten to death, though the motive remains unclear.

Police from the Urva station arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the report. A case has been officially registered, and investigations are ongoing to determine the identity of the deceased, cause of death, and any possible suspects.

Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in the case.
