Dharmasthala: The ‘Dharma Jagruti Samavesha’, a convention of leaders from Hindu religious institutions in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasaragod (Kerala), on Friday urged the government to take legal action against individuals and organisations involved in slander against Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara temple and its pattadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade.

Call to action against defamatory campaigns

The convention noted that a national-level conspiracy had been orchestrated to defame Dharmasthala through social and visual media campaigns. Participants demanded that the government prevent such campaigns and take strict legal action against institutions and individuals spreading defamatory content.

It was also resolved that action should be taken against those who made defamatory statements against other Hindu religious places of worship in Karnataka, which could disturb peace and harmony.

Strengthening Dharma Samrakshana Samithi

The convention decided to extend the scope of Dharma Samrakshana Samithi to the state level to counter campaigns targeting Hindu religious institutions. It was also resolved to hold the convention annually and unite against attacks on Hindu beliefs and leaders.

The leaders expressed solidarity with Dharmasthala temple and Mr. Heggade amid ongoing campaigns and welcomed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Dharmasthala case.

Heggade speaks on his role and vision

Speaking at the event, D. Veerendra Heggade, Rajya Sabha member and temple pattadhikari, said that truth in the Dharmasthala case is now unfolding.

He reflected on his early life, stating, “I never aspired to become pattadhikari, but following my father Ratnamvarma Heggade’s untimely death, circumstances made me agree while I was still a college student. There was opposition and protests then too.”

Heggade further said he aims to leave a permanent mark through social service and projects benefiting the masses.
