The Dakshina Kannada District Fireworks Sellers Association president, Alvin Pinto, outlined the obstacles faced by temporary fireworks vendors this Diwali season. Speaking on Friday, he shared that district authorities have granted approvals for temporary sales at 72 locations throughout Dakshina Kannada, limited to just a few days: October 30, 31, November 1, 2, and on Tulsi Puja.

Within the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) area, green fireworks sales are permitted at 13 designated grounds, including Nehru Maidan, APMC Baikampady, Urwa and Kadri Cricket Grounds, Krishnapura Paradise Ground, and other locations like Shaktinagar and Pachanadi Grounds. Temporary vendors, guided by both the district administration and the fire and emergency department, are allowed to sell only eco-friendly green fireworks.

Addressing concerns, Pinto acknowledged opposition to sales at certain venues, notably Nehru Maidan. He assured the public that sales are restricted to a four-day period adjacent to the grounds, aiming to minimize disruption for athletes. Pinto expressed optimism that the public would support these temporary vendors and understand the measures in place.

Joining Pinto at the press briefing were association secretary Prakash M. and treasurer Madhusudan, who highlighted the efforts made to ensure safe and compliant business operations.
