Mangaluru: A planned New Year DJ party in Bolar featuring Israeli artist Sajanka faced alterations after objections raised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal (BD). The event went ahead with performances by other artists, but Sajanka did not perform.
The VHP and BD lodged complaints with the police, alleging that DJ parties foster drug use and negatively influence youth. They also accused Sajanka of disrespecting Hindu gods and demanded his exclusion from the event, threatening protests if he performed.
In response, the police revoked permission for Sajanka’s appearance. Although the artist was in Mangaluru on Friday, he stayed at his hotel and refrained from participating.
This development underscores the tension between cultural events and community sensitivities in the region.
