Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO Anandh K has directed officials to identify land for constructing new hostels under the minority department. At a review meeting on the Prime Minister’s 15-Point Programme for Minorities, he emphasized shifting hostels currently operating in rented premises to their own buildings. Of the 12 hostels in the district, eight function in rented buildings, requiring urgent infrastructure development.

Boosting Admissions & Educational Facilities

Officials reported that only 840 out of 2,400 seats in eight Moulana Azad Schools were filled. Expressing dissatisfaction, the CEO instructed a large-scale awareness campaign to boost admissions and improve academic performance. He also stressed the need to ensure full enrollment in Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Residential School and PU College in the next academic year. Scholarships and educational benefits must be disbursed promptly to students.

Support for Self-Employment & Loan Schemes

Under the Arivu Education Loan Scheme, 404 applications were received, including 68 from students studying abroad. Additionally, 2,025 applications were submitted for vehicle loans under the Sarathi Loan Scheme. The district secured ₹1.5 crore under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Scheme for Minorities, with ₹3.6 crore allocated for developing minority colonies.

Waqf Properties & Revenue Collection

The district houses 1,782 waqf properties, including mosques, madrassas, dargahs, and cemeteries. These institutions must contribute 7% of their income to the Waqf Fund, which has collected ₹36 lakh this financial year.
