DK ZP Govt Higher Primary School in Devachalla Marks 100 Years of Excellence
Mangaluru: The DK ZP Govt Higher Primary School in Devachalla, Sullia taluk, is celebrating its 100th anniversary, marking a century of educational growth and transformation. The school, founded by the late Ahmad Sahukar, who donated the land, began with humble beginnings—just four walls and two rooms.
To commemorate this milestone, a variety of development projects were undertaken, including the creation of a park featuring animal sculptures such as cattle, tigers, giraffes, peacocks, and storks. Additionally, a new auditorium was built, and plans for new facilities like an open theatre, classrooms, a laboratory, sports room, computer room, and modern furniture were also set in motion. Renovations to old classrooms and campus improvements, including interlocking and playground expansion, were completed.
The total expenditure for these developments amounts to approximately ₹80 lakh. Notable projects like the three new classrooms, open theatre, and landscaping of the park have already been completed, with a few tasks in their final stages. These new facilities will be inaugurated during the centenary celebrations, scheduled for January 24 and 25.
The centenary event will feature cultural programmes, alumni visits, and special activities, with active participation from senior students, parents, and the school staff. AV Teertharam, president of the Centenary Committee and an alumnus from the 1974 batch, reflected on the school’s journey from a private institution to a government school in just four years.
