Dyfi Demands Inquiry Into Collapsed Rajakaluve Wall In Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Following the recent collapse of a rajakaluve (stormwater drain) wall at Alake due to heavy rains, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has called for an investigation into the construction work. DYFI district president BK Imthiyaz and secretary Santhosh Bajal issued a joint press release highlighting their concerns.

The wall, built under a minor irrigation department scheme to prevent flooding, collapsed within weeks of its construction. The purpose of the wall was to mitigate artificial flooding that had been affecting homes and shops in the Alake area near Kudroli. The project, which cost Rs 20 lakh, was intended to protect the community from water damage.

However, the wall’s swift collapse has raised suspicions of substandard construction. The DYFI has called for a thorough investigation, urging that the quality of the work be assessed by a premier institution like NITK Surathkal. They also demand that the contractor responsible be blacklisted and that all development projects undertaken by the minor irrigation department in the past five years be scrutinized.
