A devastating fire broke out at Cochin Bakery in Pandeshwar, Mangaluru, during the early hours of Tuesday. The incident is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, according to preliminary findings.

The flames rapidly engulfed the entire establishment, resulting in the destruction of the bakery and significant loss of inventory and equipment. Goods, furniture, and the structure itself were severely damaged before the fire could be brought under control.

Initial estimates suggest that the financial damage exceeds ₹5 lakh, though a detailed assessment is still underway. No injuries have been reported so far.

Responding swiftly, personnel from the Pandeshwar Fire and Emergency Services unit arrived on the scene and launched firefighting efforts. The team worked efficiently to douse the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings, averting further disaster.

The incident caused panic in the vicinity, as thick smoke billowed into the air. Locals gathered as firefighters battled the blaze in the narrow commercial lane, where traffic had to be temporarily diverted.

Authorities believe the blaze may have been sparked by a wiring fault, though a full investigation is being carried out to confirm the exact cause.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular electrical safety checks, especially in commercial spaces that handle flammable goods and equipment.
