The Dakshina Kannada City Bus Owners Association and the Canara Bus Owners Association are collaborating on a significant initiative aimed at improving the image of public transportation and fostering better relations among bus staff, commuters, and the student community.

Workshop for Positive Change

Azeez Parthipady, president of the Dakshina Kannada City Bus Association, announced a workshop in partnership with St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) to be held on Tuesday. The half-day event, scheduled at Eric Mathias Hall in St Aloysius College, will focus on promoting adherence to traffic rules while emphasizing good behavior and best practices among bus staff.

Key Participants and Objectives

The program will be inaugurated by DCP (crime and traffic) BP Dinesh Kumar, Fr Melwin Pinto, SJ (Rector), and Praveen Martis (Vice-Chancellor) of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University). Other notable attendees include ACP traffic sub-division Najma Farooqi, Shridhar Malnad (RTO), and Rajendra Bhat, a national-level trainer.

Sensitization and Implementation

Scheduled ahead of the monsoon season and school reopening, the workshop aims to sensitize bus staff about courteous conduct and operational guidelines. Pamphlets outlining dos and don’ts have been distributed to drivers and conductors of 340 city buses and approximately 620 service and express buses.

Implementation Guidelines

Bus conductors have been instructed to issue computerized tickets to passengers, with strict warnings of legal action for violations. Directives regarding the use of horns, uniform attire, designated stops, carrying necessary documents, fare discounts for students, and prioritizing seating for the elderly and physically challenged have been emphasized. Additionally, staff are advised against using phones and engaging in competitive driving practices.

This comprehensive initiative underscores the commitment of the bus associations towards safer, more efficient, and passenger-friendly public transportation services.
