Mangaluru: Churches across Mangaluru marked Good Friday with deep reverence, drawing large gatherings for the traditional Way of the Cross on April 18. The day was observed with heartfelt prayers and solemn rituals, as Christians reflected on the Passion and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Believers congregated at various parishes throughout the city, participating in the symbolic reenactment of Christ’s final journey to Golgotha. The ritual of the Stations of the Cross was observed prayerfully, with each stop stirring a sense of sorrow, compassion, and spiritual reflection on the suffering of Jesus.

Worshippers, dressed in muted and respectful attire, moved from station to station in silent contemplation. The procession offered an opportunity for deep personal reflection, encouraging values such as mercy, humility, and unconditional love.

During homilies, priests and clergy members emphasized that Good Friday is not just about mourning Christ’s crucifixion, but also a call for spiritual renewal through penance, devotion, and acts of kindness. They urged the faithful to carry forward the spirit of sacrifice in everyday life.

The observance will conclude with the Good Friday liturgy at 4 pm in most churches. This solemn service includes the reading of Christ’s Passion, special prayers for the world, veneration of the Holy Cross, and the distribution of Holy Communion.

As believers prepare for the joyous celebration of Easter, Good Friday serves as a powerful reminder of Christ’s ultimate act of love for humanity.
