Farmer Killed Over Tree-Cutting Dispute in Kadaba
Mangaluru: A farmer from Golithotu, Kadaba, was brutally murdered over a long-standing dispute related to tree cutting. The victim, identified as Ramesh P, a progressive farmer, was allegedly attacked on November 8 while riding his motorcycle to a nearby temple. The attack, reportedly carried out by the accused Harish, his brother-in-law Santosh, and Dharnappa (also known as Belliyappa), was said to be in retaliation for an ongoing conflict that had escalated over the past several months.
The dispute began about eight months ago over the installation of a water pipe on a shared road between Ramesh’s family and Harish’s. While this issue had been reported to the police earlier, tensions never fully dissipated. Over time, disagreements involving tree cutting further fueled the animosity between the families.
On the evening of the attack, Ramesh was ambushed by the three men who were armed with a sickle. They allegedly inflicted severe injuries, leading to his death. The victim’s wife, Geetha, filed a complaint following the incident, prompting the Uppinangady Police to open a case and initiate an investigation.
