Mangaluru: In a significant achievement for Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH), the Department of Endoscopy has been awarded the ‘Centre of Excellence’ status for its outstanding performance in the Endoscopy Safety Program conducted by CAHO (Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations) in association with Advanced Sterilisation Products (ASP).

Raising the bar in endoscopy safety

The department, in collaboration with the Quality Department of FMMCH, underwent a rigorous evaluation under the Endosafe 2024 initiative, which seeks to benchmark facilities, enhance practices, and align them with national and international safety protocols. The audit focuses on transforming patient safety in endoscopic procedures by adhering to the highest standards of design, infection control, sterilisation, training, and overall patient care.

FMMCH demonstrated more than 70% compliance across critical parameters, including:

  • Endoscopy facility design and layout

  • Patient safety and care

  • Reprocessing and sterilisation

  • Training and awareness

  • Infection control

  • Quality assurance and patient safety

  • The on-site audit was conducted on 11 March 2025 by Dr Archana B R, Professor of Microbiology, Rajarajeswari Medical College, Bengaluru.

    Recognition at CAHOCON 2025

    The honour was officially conferred on 13 April 2025, during the Centre of Excellence Ceremony on Day 2 of CAHOCON 2025, a prestigious healthcare event that celebrates innovation and compliance in patient safety. The certification, valid for two years, affirms FMMCH’s commitment to delivering best-in-class care and procedural safety in the field of endoscopy.

    Leadership expresses pride and gratitude

    Fr George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator of FMMCH, congratulated the Endoscopy Department on this milestone, stating, “FMMCH strives hard to provide the best of care, reaching even the poorest of the poor with no compromise on quality — a mission mandated by Jesus Christ.”
