Mangaluru: The Department of ENT, in association with the Department of Anatomy at Father Muller Medical College, successfully organised a two-day hands-on Temporal Bone Dissection Workshop on March 23 and 24, 2026. The workshop was conducted for postgraduate ENT students and junior consultants from various colleges across Mangaluru and Kerala.
The initiative aimed to provide practical training and enhance surgical skills in temporal bone anatomy, a critical area for performing otologic procedures.
Focus on advanced surgical training
The workshop was led by a dedicated organising team comprising Dr. Vinay V Rao, Organising Chairman; Dr. Adhyasha Surendran, Organising Secretary from the Department of ENT; and Dr. Varsha Shenoy, Organising Secretary from the Department of Anatomy.
Dr. Kumaraswamy Krishnappa from Basavangudi ENT Centre, Bengaluru, served as the Course Director and Chief Guest for the event. The programme brought together experienced faculty members and participants for two days of intensive learning and skill development.
The sessions were designed to offer in-depth knowledge of temporal bone anatomy along with practical exposure to surgical techniques, ensuring participants gained both theoretical understanding and hands-on experience.
Inauguration ceremony with dignitaries
The workshop commenced with a formal inauguration ceremony, including the traditional lamp lighting ritual. The event was presided over by Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions; Rev. Fr. Michael Santhumayor, Administrator of Father Muller Medical College; Rev. George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator of Father Muller Hospital; and Dr. Anthony Sylvan Dsouza, Dean of Father Muller Medical College.

In his address, Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo expressed appreciation for hosting the workshop at the institution for the second time and extended his best wishes to all participants.

Dr. Adhyasha Surendran delivered the vote of thanks, while Dr. Sheon, a first-year postgraduate student, compered the inauguration ceremony.
Hands-on learning and expert guidance
Over the two days, the sessions were guided by experienced faculty who provided detailed anatomical orientation and demonstrated surgical techniques essential for safe and effective ear surgeries.

Participants were actively engaged in hands-on dissection sessions using high-quality microscopes and specialised instruments. Each participant received close supervision and guidance from faculty members, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of anatomical landmarks and operative procedures.

The structured training allowed participants to gain confidence in handling complex surgical scenarios and improved their practical skills in otologic surgery.
Positive response from participants
The workshop concluded with highly positive feedback from participants, who appreciated the well-organised sessions, expert mentorship, and the opportunity for direct hands-on experience.

Attendees noted that such practical training programmes are invaluable in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical application.
The organising committee expressed gratitude to all faculty members, staff, and participants for their contributions in making the workshop a success.
