A court has sentenced Vijesh Shettigar to death for the murder of his three children in a shocking incident near S Kodi under Mulki police station limits on June 23, 2022. Shettigar, a flower vendor at Padmanoor, was found guilty of killing Rashmita (14), Uday (11), and Dakshit (4) by pushing them into a well during a family dispute.
The tragedy escalated when Shettigar attempted to compel his wife to join him in a joint suicide. Fortunately, alert locals intervened, rescuing both Shettigar and his wife. Sadly, the children had already succumbed. Shettigar was apprehended shortly after the horrific event.
The trial, held at the 3rd Additional District and Sessions Court, involved the testimony of 32 witnesses. The prosecution, led by government lawyer Mohan Kumar B, meticulously presented evidence, securing the conviction.
Presiding judge Sandhya S declared Shettigar guilty of murder under Section 302 of the IPC, sentencing him to capital punishment. Additionally, he received a 10-year prison term under Section 307 for the attempted killing of his wife.
