Mangaluru: Former KPCC general secretary Padmaraj R. Poojary assured that there is no restriction on celebrating festivals in accordance with religious and cultural traditions. He emphasised that festivities can continue with grandeur as long as they adhere to the law.
Festivals and cultural freedom
Speaking to reporters, Padmaraj said, “No one will disturb the celebration of festivals according to our cultural and religious customs. There is no obstacle to celebrating festivals with pomp and devotion.”
He clarified that restrictions on DJs and sound systems are part of legal provisions and not an act of political interference. “The time limit for loud music was in place even during the BJP regime. It is the duty of officials to enforce these rules,” he explained.
BJP criticised for misleading people
Padmaraj accused the BJP of creating unnecessary controversies around such issues instead of focusing on development.
“The BJP has nothing to talk about except these issues. They have been misleading people for a long time. Instead, elected representatives should work for the people who have chosen them,” he said.
Police role in festival regulations
The Congress leader also noted that the police have never obstructed devotional celebrations in the past. He reiterated that their role is to ensure compliance with legal norms and maintain public order during festivities.
Conclusion
Padmaraj’s statement comes amid discussions on regulations during festivals, particularly regarding sound limits and DJ usage. He assured that cultural celebrations will continue unhindered as long as legal guidelines are followed.
