Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta announced that the South Western Railway has floated a tender for a final location survey to double the Hassan-Mangaluru railway line. The project spans a route length of 247 km and aims to significantly improve connectivity between Mangaluru and Bengaluru.

The survey includes a proposal for a flatter gradient of 1 in 100 in the 120 km Ghat section, replacing the current steeper 1 in 50 gradient. This adjustment involves an additional length of 65 km, with the remaining 127 km covering the existing alignment from Hassan to Sakleshpur and Subramanya Road to Mangaluru Junction.

Taking to X, the MP expressed optimism about the project. “May this expedite the process of enhancing connectivity on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru route at the earliest. Will pursue this to completion for better commute and logistics movement between two key cities of our state,” he stated.

The new alignment is expected to enhance passenger convenience and streamline logistics, addressing long-standing challenges on the existing route. The move has been welcomed by commuters and businesses, who anticipate reduced travel times and improved cargo movement.
