A fish-loaded lorry veered off its path and overturned at Pukkeri near Sanoor village on Friday, leaving the driver with minor injuries but averting a major mishap.
The vehicle, which was ferrying fish stock from Malpe towards Moodbidri, reportedly toppled after the driver lost command of the steering. Eyewitnesses stated that the lorry seemed to be speeding slightly before the driver attempted to negotiate a curve, leading to the vehicle skidding and tipping over.
Locals quickly rushed to the spot, helping the driver out of the cabin. Fortunately, he only suffered minor bruises and was treated at a nearby clinic.
The accident caused temporary traffic disruption along the route, as the overturned vehicle blocked a portion of the road. Authorities soon arrived to manage the scene, ensuring the lorry was moved aside to restore traffic flow.
Some of the fish cargo spilled onto the road during the crash, drawing attention from passersby and creating a messy scene.
This incident highlights the recurring issue of road accidents involving heavy goods vehicles on this stretch, often attributed to overloading or reckless driving.
Officials have urged drivers transporting perishable goods to exercise caution, especially on narrow village roads where mishaps can quickly escalate.
Timely response from locals and emergency services ensured that no major harm was done.
