Mangaluru: In a significant boost to education in the region, Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai announced that the government has agreed to sanction five new Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) for the Puttur assembly constituency.

MLA Rai had met Madhu Bangarappa, Minister for School Education and Literacy, in Bengaluru to request the establishment of additional KPS model schools. Highlighting the success of the two existing KPS institutions in Puttur, Rai emphasized their high student enrolment and quality education as key reasons for expanding the initiative.

He also proposed the merger of rural government schools with low student strength into the new KPS institutions to ensure efficient use of resources and better academic outcomes. “Creating well-equipped KPS schools in central locations will provide students with quality education under one roof,” Rai explained.

In addition to the new school proposal, the MLA appealed to the minister for grants to upgrade and develop various schools and colleges in the constituency. The minister responded positively, assuring financial support under a special scheme.

This move is expected to transform the educational landscape of the region, offering improved infrastructure and learning opportunities to students from rural and semi-urban areas.
