Mangaluru: While the intensity of rainfall has diminished in Dakshina Kannada, flood conditions remain severe in several areas. The Phalguni River’s rising water level has forced the evacuation of eight families from Ammunje and Kariyangala near Polali to safer locations.
The Nethravathi River in Bantwal is flowing above the danger level, reaching 9.1 meters early in the morning before receding to 8.7 meters by 8 p.m., according to sources from the taluk office.
Efforts to manage the flood situation included the relocation of residents from more than 15 houses along the Belthangady-Moodbidri state highway, coordinated by Moodbidri police and local volunteers until 3 a.m. Additionally, cattle were moved from affected areas. Some houses near Marooru temple and Masjid in Moodbidri TMC limits were inundated, and water levels reached above knee height in certain stretches.
The increased inflow into vented dams at Hanneradu Kavalu and Angarekariya in Venoor and Hosangady has left plantations and paddy fields submerged. Water has also entered houses and arecanut plantations in Karjothu, Mattu, Poocherlekki, Derar, Pade, Arladka, Thorpu, Perim Jangar, Kodamani, Kodingeri, and other areas.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to provide relief and prevent further damage.
