A routine rescue mission in Thenkila, Puttur took an unexpected turn when a frightened cat lashed out at its saviors, leaving two firefighters injured.

On Monday, Lakshmi, a resident near Thenkila Cross, discovered her pet trapped inside a deep well. The distressed feline had burrowed into a crevice, making any rescue attempt challenging. Unable to retrieve the cat on her own, she alerted the fire and emergency department for assistance.

Responding promptly, firefighters Siddharooda and Mounesh entered the well, ensuring all necessary safety measures were in place. After a careful and precise operation, they successfully retrieved the cat. However, as soon as it was brought to safety, the panicked animal retaliated, biting both rescuers.

Speaking on the incident, CR Ranganath, regional fire officer, confirmed that the firefighters sustained minor injuries but were immediately taken to Puttur’s government hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, both are recovering well.

This unexpected encounter highlights the challenges emergency responders face, even in what seem to be straightforward rescues.
