Mangaluru— Sub Lieutenant Anannya Rao, a 2024 graduate in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, has been commissioned into the Indian Navy, marking a moment of immense pride for her alma mater and hometown.

A native of Mangaluru, Anannya is the daughter of Satish Rao, a retired telecom officer, and Veena Rao. Her journey from a disciplined NCC cadet at NITK to a naval officer was shaped by her deep-rooted passion for service and her strong academic background.

After completing an intensive 10-month military training at the prestigious Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerala, she officially joined the Navy during the Passing Out Parade held on May 31.

Anannya’s tenure with the NCC and her engineering studies played a crucial role in shaping her commitment and ambition. She successfully cleared demanding entrance exams and underwent rigorous physical and mental training, earning her commission into one of the country’s most respected defense forces.

Reflecting on her achievement, Anannya shared a simple yet powerful mantra: “Dream it. Plan it. Work for it. Achieve it.”

Her remarkable accomplishment has been met with congratulations from the NITK Director, faculty, and students, who expressed immense pride in her success and contribution to national service.
